The Four Red Riding Hoods Pantomime

Posted by 2ndHistonBrownies

2nd Histon Brownies put on a pantomime for family and friends. It was the Four Riding Hoods and not only was there Red Riding Hood, but Yellow, Green and Blue Ridiung Hood as well. There were 2 Grandmas, a Queen, A Wolf (of course) and lots of friends. It was the girls birthday and it all started to go wrong when the Wolf won the fancy dress competition and Grandma Bones and Grandma Cuddles had a handbag fight in the forest. The Woodland Creatures watched as the Wolf chased everyone round and round and got more and more tangled up in Grandma Cuddles knitting wool. He was soon captures by the triumphant Riding Hoods. Everyone celebrated at the end, except the Wolf who was rather sick from eating too much birthday cake.

Here are some photos from our performance.

Reading Tent on Village Green

Our Reading Tent

Our Reading Tent

2nd Histon Brownies have been changing the world again.  They set up a Reading Tent at the HistonFeast Market.  There was a cosy reading corner, with rugs and cushions and story reading, there were drinks and refreshments and a second hand book stall.  The girls displayed posters about Mobile Camel Libraries in Africa, and life for a rural Ugandan child. It was a really busy morning with lots of people visiting the tent.  We told them all about Book Aid International and raised enough money to send nearly 40 books to Africa.

Brownies go to Hogwarts

Posted by 2ndHistonBrownies

“Dear Miss Smith, I am pleased to inform you that you have been accepted into Hogwarts School”. 16 members of 2nd Histon Brownies were soon packing and ready to start their weekend at Hogwarts School, otherwise known as Abbots Ripton Lodge, near Huntingdon.

 Gerring sorted

On arrival at the school they were Sorted into different houses and were relieved to find that only the leaders were in Slytherin House. During the weekend, they took part in craft activities such as making bats and broomsticks and decorating candle holders, made smoothie potions, visited Hogsmeade village (and the Cinema), held a Quidditch tournament and also helped the house elves with their chores. The Brownies, aged 7 – 10 years, also enjoyed spending time together in their House groups and singing very loudly around the camp fire. Rumour has it that there was a secret midnight feast, but Professor McGonigall is quite sure that that all the girls were tucked up in bed by 10.30pm each night. By the end of the weekend every Brownie had received a Golden Snitch Award for personal achievements such as; being the first to get to sleep on Saturday night, being brave in injury, being the best at tidying up, and help in the kitchen.

2nd Histon Brownies Change the World

Posted by 2ndHistonBrownies

sl3809472plastic-bag-fashion4The 2nd Histon Brownies have been learning about climate change and the problems of plastic rubbish polluting the sea with the WWF FUND Project.  We made mosaic pictures from plastic packaging to highlight the dangers to turtles and albatrosses when they eat this rubbish mistaking it for jelly fish.  You might have seen our pictures at the Village Greening Launch and we hope to display them at the Histon Baptist Church soon.

We also enjoyed a fabulous plastic bag fashion evening, had a visit from the local HICCA group and learnt about polar bears in the Arctic.  Next term we will be starting a new project so look out for our news.
